When I started the Masculinist, the church was a barren wasteland for quality advice for men. I barely saw anyone else writing constructively about even the most basic issues—things like attraction, the differences between men and women, marriage, divorce.
Even now, it is too rare.
In fact, most of the advice you will get is still so wrong that it will set you up for failure and heartbreak.
Let me give you an example. If you want to get married and have kids, you are not likely to get advice that works from your pastor. You are not going to hear about how to effectively attract a wife, about why servant leadership doesn’t work, about the fact that about 70% of divorces are initiated by women (let alone why)…you aren’t going to hear any of that. In fact, what you will probably hear from him are things that are fundamentally untrue.
It’s not that your pastor is intentionally lying to you. He probably just doesn’t know better—and for some reason, may not care about knowing better.
I don’t understand this mentality, because I do care, very much. I want men like you to have access to good information that sets you up to navigate life well—not steer you onto the rocks!
I am not a pastor. Nor am I an academic. But I have worked in think tanks in NYC, and been published in places like the New York Times and the Atlantic. The Lord has given me a gift in being able to synthesize, package, and communicate. I’m good at taking in large amounts of information, piecing it together into a coherent framework, and then articulating it in a way that makes sense to others.
I’m also not a guru. I don’t know everything. But I have learned a lot of things the hard way, through personal life experience and through research. Things that your pastor should know and be telling you, but doesn’t.
Since you aren’t going to get this information at church, and it’s hard to find it online without having to navigate secular or pagan ideology and snake-oil, I want you to be able to get them here.
I feel duty-bound to do what I can to help men like you understand what is wrong with the world, and what you can do about it.
